Joe Favia is a classicaly trained musician in the area of woodwinds and music theory from Washingtonville, NY. Currently working on a degree in music education at the Crane School of Music, Joe hopes to pursue doctoral studies and teach at a college level. Joe has performed numerous solo and chamber selections for large audiences. His most recent solo performance was at NFA's OCMEA All-County, where he performed the Poulenc Sonata for Clarinet and received a $1,500 scholarship. His mentors include Raphael Sanders and Julianne Kirk Doyle at the Crane School of Music, Tristan Willems, Steven Silverstein and Jim Briggs. In December of 2016, Joe performed as the principal 2nd Clarinetist of the NYSSMA All-State Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Scott Hanna from the Butler School of Music.
In 2016, Joe was chosen to perform in the Crane Youth Music honor's recital at the Crane School of Music, performing the Poulenc Sonata for Crane students and faculty, and was the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra's principal clarinetist.
Joe currently plays on a 2013 Buffet R13 clarinet with a Backun grenadilla 66mm barrel, a Vandoren M30D mouthpiece, a Silverstein Cryo4 Ligature, and either a Legere Synthetic 3.75 or Silverstein Alta 3.5/4 reed.
