Once a month on the 3rd Saturday we bring together 3 of the best local and regional musicians, and appreciative listeners to share an evening of music. For Saturday May 19, 2012, our 28th Free Performance night our performers are: Ken McNally Ken McNally has been writing songs as a hobby for over thirty-five years. Ken says that in general his songs have a pretty strong beat and can loosely be described as being of the folk- rock genre. He strives to come up with catchy and /or stirring chorus hooks. His song lyrics are based on life experiences, observations and concerns. Ken fairly often used music therapeutically during his life long career in a helping profession. His submitted composition won a contest for official Orange County song. He also wrote songs used in a local agency' production of Shakespeare's play "As You Like It". Gayle Donnelly https://www.facebook.com/gayle.donnelly54 Gayle Donnelly is an up-and-coming artist in Orange County who plays keyboard and sings in a soulful pop style. She performs a wide range of originals and covers appealing to many different types of audiences. Finlay and Pagdon http://www.finleyandpagdon.com Life long natives of the Hudson Valley, celebrated Woodstock based Duo, Denise Jordan and Daniel Pagdon play Contemporary Folk generated music that touches on Traditional, Americana, Bluegrass, Jazz, Rock, and Classical. Each explored their music as composers, performers, recording artists and educators. Each are self-taught on their instruments. Anchoringtheir music on two superbly played guitars, Finley's expressive voice, and their powerful songwriting, they enhance their repertoire on occasion with percussion and the incomparable playing of Matt Finley on an assortment of wind instruments, as well as with full bands in colleges, theaters, and outdoor parks and festivals. Between them, they have played for a sum of over six decades... They started playing professionally, both, as children. They continue to maintain their inimitable music which exudes the warmth, truth and technical skill that only years of experience can offer. Their touching, humorous, and visually captivating performance has engrossed audiences since 2005. To date, they have won numerous prestigious honors and awards, including: mentions, places, and wins in regional, national, and international competitions in songwriting, such as: the New Jersey Folk Festival, Falcon Ridge Festival, Old Songs Festival, Walnut Valley Festival, The Great American Songwriters Competition, Plowshares Competition, Mid Atlantic States Songwriting Competition, and Great Lakes Songwriting Contest, to name some.

Once a month on the 3rd Saturday we bring together 3 of the best local and regional musicians, and appreciative listeners to share an evening of music. For Saturday February 18, 2012, our 26th Free Performance night our performers are: Frank Costantino Frank Cos was raised on a steady diet of American rock music including strong influences from America, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Springsteen and of course, Bob Dylan, whose “Blood on the Tracks” album inspired him to learn how to play the guitar. Of all the influences he’s had, none have been stronger than his own brother, Joe Cos, who played and wrote songs that inspired Frank to do the same. Frank played in several NYC based bands in the late eighties and into the mid-nineties, with his last band, “Sweet Frankie” playing venues such as the Bitter End and Kenny’s Castaways frequently. His self-titled CD was finished in 1998 and after a year of supporting it on the local scene, Frank turned his attention to raising his children. He re-emerged on the open mic scene over a year ago as he began recording his new CD in his home studio titled “15 PPW,” an homage to his hometown of Brooklyn, NY and the Prospect Park west train station near his home. The new project has several tracks written by his brother, some older material from Frank as well as a couple of covers and new songs written for the CD. A multi-instrumentalist, Frank plays most instruments on the CD which is expected to be released in the late spring. Andy Zook
Hailing from Seattle, WA, indie folk singer/songwriter Andrew Patrick Zook sings in catchy melodies and plays guitar with passion and style that is familiar to an up and coming Northwest music scene. Such Northwest bands as Rocky Votolato, Fleet Foxes, and The Decemberists have left an imprint on Andrew, but don't pigeon hole him to stereotypical modern folkrock. With soulful style, Andrew suprises with unexpected rhythms and hymn-like poetry that recalls growing up in the Seattle area and feeling the influences of jazz musicians such as Quincey Jones and Ray Charles. All of this comes out in music unique to Zook that sounds a lot like The Swell Season, or a male verson of Feist that will explore ideas of isolation in longing, hope in humanity and a desire for grace. Check out Zook's recent album "Go Find Your Love" with his former Seattle band Sea Fever on facebook. Helen Avakian
Helen Avakian is an award-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist voted Favorite Acoustic Act 4 times by Rhythm and News Magazine, and a 5 time winner in the Walnut Valley Festival’s NewSongs contest. Helen has 2 albums of original songs as well as a classical guitar duet CD with guitarist/composer, Terry Champlin. She has produced recordings for other songwriters and appeared as a studio guitarist and vocalist for Priscilla Herdman and Terry Champlin. In addition she has appeared on PBS radio and television, and has shared the stage with actors Vanessa and Rachel Redgrave, and musicians, Peter Yarrow, Amy Fradon and Leslie Ritter among others. www.HelenAvakian.com
